Today’s blog post is from a guest and is about the importance of content, a topic that I have touched upon recently in posts such as the importance of everyone’s content on Twitter, and its value not only as part of your social media marketing, but also how it positively affects your relationship building as well as SEO efforts.

Relationship-Building Tool

Web visitors have a lot of wants when they arrive at a website: They want information; they want a pleasant experience; they want to be engaged; they want to learn more about you and your services; and they want to know that they can trust you. In short, they are trying to establish a relationship with you.

Unique content can satisfy your visitors’ wants while also serving as a relationship-building tool. In order to perform this important task, your content should be: informative, well written, engaging, and tailored to both your organization and your targeted audience. Above all, it should be unique.

Not only can a few well-placed original articles engage users and position you as an authority, these same articles can drive traffic to your website where new visitors will begin getting to know you on a deeper level. Because your content is informative, well written, and not plastered all over the Web, your credibility and reputation will grow.

Social Media

In addition to using unique blog posts and articles in engaging and informing website visitors, consider using it in your social media efforts on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Reddit and any others you’re active on.

You’ll find that using unique content can benefit all of your social media efforts. By having one article written, you can post it on your Facebook page or company blog, link to it on Digg, tweet about it on Twitter, and even make a Youtube video discussing some of its major points. The point is, one article can be shared in different ways on many different platforms and can generate a lot of exposure and discussion.

Unique content spurs conversation with your readers, and can be the launching pad for a great discussion about the subject of your information. This is a great way to position yourself as a thought leader in your industry, helping your pages become recognized as great places to discuss topics in the industry. By regularly providing interesting content on your platform of choice, you can start to develop a real community of followers who regularly participate in discussions on your posts and will watch your pages for new updates.

Even the most adamant of fans need something to share. By sharing unique information with your customers or fans, you’re giving them something that they can easily share with their networks. It’s much easier and rewarding to tweet about an interesting article that a company has produced, rather than just mentioning your company out of the blue. Empower your followers to spread the word about you!

Anyone who has dabbled in search engine optimization (SEO) knows that unique content plays an important role in SEO. Readers value well-written print material, and the same goes for the online world as well. Search engines use sophisticated algorithms to weed out duplicates and present the most relevant pages.

While you may think users are less sophisticated than search engines at detecting duplicate content, you’d be surprised. Searchers visit multiple websites in their quest for information. When they see the same old rehashed information, do you think they stick around or move on? With unique information that you publish, you can present a fresh perspective, a friendly voice, and a reason to stay on your site. In short, unique content attracts search engine visitors and can entice these visitors to stick around.

If you’ve been involved in creating articles and posts for websites, blogs, and social media, you know that writing informative, compelling copy isn’t easy – it takes time and talent. Of course the most important benefit to unique, quality content is it makes you valuable! And being valuable helps you in all other aspects of online marketing (except being unpopular) so there you have it. :)

The key point of this article is something I believe in, and that is: your blog is the hub of your social media efforts.
Content from your blog can serve as a source of engagement on all the various platforms, and without it you’ll be just another voice among millions.
Original content will (hopefully) contribute in shaping a community around it, which will enhance your results even more.
