[Video] How To Add a Facebook Like Button to Your WordPress Blog or Website

Video-How-To-Add-a-Facebook-Like-Button-to-Your-WordPress-Blog-or-Website-V3.min copy

If you haven’t noticed yet, Facebook “Like” buttons are starting to appear on many websites throughout the Web.  These are part of the new Facebook “Social Plugin” options.  For bloggers and businesses running websites, adding this “Like” button should be a no-brainer in that it adds the following benefits to your website:

  1. If someone “Likes” your website, a message is passed on through that person’s News Feed on Facebook that they liked your website, complete with a link to entice one of their friend’s to check out your website.
  2. For new visitors to your website, from Google or Bing web searches for example, displaying a number of people that already “Like” your site shows that your site has already been confirmed by many people to be a trustworthy source of information.

Today I recorded my first screencast to show you how to actually implement this on your WordPress powered blog or website.  Even if you are not technical nor have your own WordPress blog, I hope you’ll see my video because it illustrates how truly easy it is to integrate social media features into your website.  I consult with many companies who need to pay a lot of money to integrate social features into their website.  While WordPress may not be the most ideal e-commerce platform nor appropriate for large enterprises, if you use it as the engine for your small business website, you will be able to see how non-technical people like myself can implement the latest social media features.  If you’ve ever thought about blogging, I hope this screencast illustrates how truly easy it is to customize your blog, should you wish to begin blogging.

As this is the first in hopefully many screencasts to come, please do comment if there is a screencast or tutorial on any of the social media sites that you would like to see me cover!  Thanks!

Watched your video on placing the Like Button on my blog page. Did it exactly as you suggested and I've been waiting 20 minutes for the Code. Is this normal? I've tried twice now. Thank you.

  2. Greg Drejza says

I am trying the process but, the popup with the code is not appearing from FB. I enter the info then no popup appears.

  3. says

This is not normal KaraAnn! It should work immediately! Please try again as it may have been a temporary thing…if not, Facebook might have changed the way they generate code for this ;-(

    Hi Greg.

Read my comment below to KaraAnn. The two of you responded to me within an hour…I hope this is only a temporary glitch and Facebook has fixed the issue!

I will try again and let you know.  I'm currently taking a Social Media Class in Phoenix, AZ.  Actually, my instructor is the person who sent me the video.  I called him about the problem and he also went in and tried and got the same results.  We assumed it's a Facebook issue.  They've had a lot of challenges lately.  I will let you know if it doesn't work the 2nd time around.

Hey Neal,  Well it's Monday, May 17th, 11 AM in AZ and I just tried to install the Like Button from the Facebook site again.  When I Click on Code nothing happens.  Oh well!!!!

Have you heard from anyone else that this is not working?

    Thanks – Kara

Hi Kara Ann, I had one person tweet to me that the code worked like a charm. Don't know what else to tell you. You may want to clear your browser cache, restart your computer and try again. I hope by then it works for you.

  10. KaraAnn says

I'm tickeled that it worked for one person but everyone I've talked with (7 people)it has not worked.  Just tried again a few minutes ago.  Guess I'll just have to do without.

    Thanks for your help.

    Kara Ann

    Kara Ann,

I just tried this again and it worked like a charm. I am beginning to think that this may be more of an Internet Browser issue more than anything. I am using Safari on Mac Snow Leopard OS. Sorry I cannot offer you any more help…

I will copy the code that I generated for my site…if you replace my URL with yours, you should be able to use it. Give it a try…

    <iframe src=”http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%253A%252F%252Fwindmillnetworking.com&layout=standard&show_faces=true&width=450&action=like&font=arial&colorscheme=light&height=80″ scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ style=”border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:80px;” allowTransparency=”true”></iframe>

Hi Neal – Firstly I'd like to thank you for my LinkedIn book I received last week from the competition.

Next I'd like to say thanks for this post – It was just what I was looking for — hahaha. I was going through the buttons on Google when I found this post on Page 1 for the search term how to add a button to Word press blog – congrats on that!

Easily done I actually added it to my side bar of widgets http://taketheplungecoffee.com/blog/ because I couldn't the home page in my dashboard admin – like you I'm no Techo.

Glad to hear that you both safely got my book and you found my video on adding a Facebook Like button to your blog. Glad to hear that I was on the first page of search results! Somebody at Google must like Windmill Networking ;-) Take care and keep in touch!

I'm sorry to hear about that…there was one other person who had this same issue, but there have been other commenters who said that it worked. Sorry I can't be of any further help…

Hello, thanks to this tutorial, I was able to place the ‘Like’ button on my blog posts. Now, I was wondering, how am I going to monitor those who ‘Liked’ my blogpost?

  19. says

Glad to hear that the tutorial for the Facebook “Like” button helped! I also was trying to figure out how to show the faces of those friends who “Liked” your blogpost. You can do this by adjusting the height number in the HTML code so that it shows the faces. Hope the information helps!
